摘要：A television system includes a menu generating feature which provides aplurality of menus comprising menu items corresponding to functions within a televisionsignal processor (500,520) for selecting the functions for controlling, e.g., the display of avideo image. A user-defined \"fetch\" menu (103-107;203-207;303-307;703-707), which isabsent from the screen during normal program viewing, and which is easily accessible bymeans of a single key (411), holds a given number of the user's favorite menu items. Theuser may add (640-655) menu items to the fetch menu which normally reside any positionin the plurality of menus. The user may thereafter cause display (615) of his list offavorite commands, and cause the execution (630) of his desired menu item withouthaving to find that menu item at its normal position in the hierarchy.
