The summer after Maggie Doyne graduated from high school, she decided to spend a year travelling around the world before she started college. Surprisingly, the journey changed her life and the lives of hundreds of orphaned(无父母的) children forever.

In 2006, Doyne took a trip through Himalaya Mountains in the war –torn(遭战争破坏的) country of Nepal. she met a lot of orphaned children. Doyne was shocked to see so many kids living on the streets. She wanted to do something about it. So Doyne used her savings of $5,000 to build the kids a home, the Kopila Valley Children‟s Home.

the Kopila Valley Children‟s Home opened its doors in 2008. Now Doyne cares for 26 kids at the home. She has helped more than 700 other orphans find families. She also runs another programme that provides money for poor families to send their children to school. The children at the home learn basic skills such as sewing and cooking. They also grow their own food in their garden and raise farm animals.

Doyne says that her parents supported her project. But it was a challenge to convince other adults that a girl could finish such a big project. Still, Doyne never gave up on money raising. In just over a year, she had enough to build her dream home.
