Dear Lily,
Hi! How are you? I'm having such an exciting summer vacation! Mom and Dad took me and my little brother on a big trip to visit family in California. The airplane ride was really fun - I got to look out the window the whole time and see the clouds and land far below. It was my first time flying and I wasn't scared at all!
When we got to California, Grandma and Grandpa's house was so nice. They have a huge backyard with a swimming pool, swing set, and a treehouse that Grandpa built himself! James and I spent hours every day playing outside. The weather there is so warm and sunny compared to back home. Grandma taught me how to make her special chocolate chip cookies. They're delicious! I'll have to bake some for you when I get back.
One of the best parts was going to the beach. The ocean is massive - bigger than any lake I've ever seen. We went
swimming, built sandcastles, and hunted for seashells. I found so
many beautiful ones to bring back as souvenirs. At night, we had bonfires and roasted marshmallows. The sunsets over the water were breathtaking shades of pink, orange, and purple.
Another fun day was when we went to Disneyland! I was so excited because I love all the Disney movies. We went on tons of rides like Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and the Haunted Mansion. My favorite was definitely the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. We also met lots of the Disney characters like Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, and Goofy and got their autographs. It was the most magical place!
Grandma and Grandpa took us to see the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame too. There were stars on the sidewalk with names of celebrities and handprints/footprints from movies. It felt like we were walking among the stars! We also saw the iconic Chinese Theatre and drove by places like the Sunset Strip and Beverly Hills to see the huge mansions. Everything in L.A. is so glitzy and glamorous.
Yesterday, we visited the Santa Monica Pier and rode the ferris wheel and rollercoasters at the amusement park there. We also walked along the beach boardwalk and watched the street performers - there were dancers, musicians, artists, and more.
We ate delicious food like funnel cakes, hot dogs, and ice cream too. I won a huge stuffed teddy bear at one of the game booths! I'm having such an awesome time here in California, but I miss you tons! We'll be back home in a few days. I took lots of pictures and can't wait to tell you everything and show you the souvenirs I got for you. Getting a postcard from here made me think of you. I hope you're having fun this summer too! See you soon, bestie! Love,

Dear Jessie,
Wow, I can't believe summer vacation is almost over already! These last two months have just flown by. I've been having such an amazing time though and I have so much to tell you about. Get ready for a super long postcard because I don't want to leave anything out!
First off, did I mention that my family took an awesome trip to the beach for two whole weeks? We went to this place called Seaside Heights and stayed in a cute little beach house right by
the ocean. Every morning I would wake up and race outside to play in the sand and surf. The waves were huge and perfect for boogie boarding - I caught so many gnarly waves! My boogie boarding skills are off the charts now after all that practice. In the evenings, we would go down to the boardwalk and play games like skee-ball, whack-a-mole, and the ring toss. I was horrible at most of them at first but after playing them every night, I started getting pretty good. I even won a giant teddy bear that's nearly as big as me! We would get delicious boardwalk food like funnel cakes, cotton candy, and of course tons of pizza and hot dogs. I think I ate my weight in french fries! One night there was an amazing fireworks show right over the beach. The fireworks were booming and lighting up the whole sky in bright reds, blues, greens, and purples. It was the coolest fireworks I've ever seen! My little brother got scared at first from all the noise but once he saw how pretty they were, he was mesmerized. We all oohed and aahed at every explosion. On the days we didn't go to the beach, we went on some really fun adventures too. One day we went to an amusement park with the craziest roller coasters. I was a little nervous to go on the looping ones at first but my big brother said I had to be brave and go for it. Once I mustered up my courage and went on
the first upside-down coaster, I was hooked! We must have ridden every single coaster like 5 times each. My stomach still gets butterflies thinking about those huge drops!
Another day we went on a dolphin watching tour on this big boat. We got to see dolphins swimming and playing right alongside the boat! They were so graceful jumping out of the water. A couple times they came super close and I could hear them making clicking noises. The guide said that's how they communicate and locate fish to eat. She taught us all kinds of cool facts about dolphins that I didn't know before.
I also finally learned how to swim without my floaties this summer! My parents got me taking daily lessons and I worked really hard at practicing my strokes. By the end of the lessons, I could swim the whole length of the pool underwater. No more being stuck in the baby pool for me! I felt so proud of myself for accomplishing that.
When we weren't at the beach or going on little trips, I stayed plenty busy hanging out with the neighborhood kids too. We had huge backyard camp outs almost every weekend, chasing fireflies at night and roasting s'mores over the fire pit. During the hot days, we ran through the sprinklers and had epic water balloon battles. One time we even created this totally
awesome homemade slip n' slide using a tarp and tons of dishsoap and water. I got so muddied up from sliding on my belly but it was a blasty!
I've been staying up way later than I do during the school year too, watching movies, playing video games, and reading lots of books. We had this crazy thunderstorm one night that knocked out the power for a few hours. Instead of being bored, we all told spooky ghost stories to each other using just flashlights to see. My stories were easily the scariest!
As you can see, I've been having the time of my life this summer. I got a tiny taste of freedom and independence that I can't wait to get more of as I get older. Part of me is excited to go back to school to see everyone again and start a new grade. But another part of me wants summer to last forever so I never have to stop having fun! At least I'll have these incredible memories to look back on.
I really hope you've been having just as amazing of a summer as I have. We're going to have so much to catch up on when I see you again! I can't wait to hear all about your
adventures too. Just a few more weeks left before we're back at it. Hang in there, summer break is almost over but there's still time to soak up more sun and fun!
Miss you tons, Your friend, [Your name]

Dear Sam,
Greetings from sunny California! I'm having such an awesome time on my family vacation here. We've been to so many fun places already and I can't wait to tell you all about it. We flew here from Chicago last week. The plane ride was really long but I didn't get bored at all. I watched movies, played games on the screen, and even slept a little bit. When we finally landed in Los Angeles, I could hardly contain my excitement! Our first stop was Disneyland! Can you believe I had never been there before? It was even more magical than I imagined. We went on tons of rides like Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and the Haunted Mansion. My favorite was probably Indiana Jones Adventure - it felt like we were really exploring ancient temples and running from boulder traps! The fireworks show at night was breathtaking too.
After spending a couple days at Disneyland, we drove down the coast to San Diego. Our hotel room had an amazing view of the ocean. We visited the famous San Diego Zoo and saw so many cool animals up close - lions, elephants, pandas, you name it! My favorite was probably the polar bear exhibit where you could watch them swim around underwater. We also went to SeaWorld one day and I got to touch a dolphin! How neat is that?
From San Diego, we headed back up the coast to Santa Barbara. The beach there was gorgeous with its soft golden sand. We rented beach chairs and umbrellas and spent the whole day relaxing, swimming, and building sandcastles. For dinner, we ate at this restaurant right on the pier and I had the most delicious fish tacos ever. Yum!
Yesterday, we made it to our final stop in California - the city of Santa Monica. We biked along the beach trail and I saw lots of people rollerblading, skateboarding, and working out at the famous outdoor gymnastics area called Muscle Beach. After that, we walked along the Santa Monica Pier which had an amusement park, aquarium, and all kinds of fun boardwalk games. I won a huge stuffed banana at one of the carnival games!
We're having such a blast here but I'm starting to miss home a little. My little brother has been driving me crazy as usual, but I'll be glad to see him and the rest of my friends when I get back next week. I've taken so many photos and souvenirs to show you. Get ready for an epic show and tell when I return!
Well, that's all for now. I've got to run - we're headed to the Getty Museum today to see all the amazing art. I'll tell you more about that next time. Have a great couple weeks and I'll see you very soon! Your friend, [Your name]

Dear Jessica,
Hi! It's me, your best friend Emily. I'm writing to tell you all about my awesome summer vacation. I had so much fun and did a bunch of cool things! Get ready for a super long letter because I have a lot to share.
First, my family and I went to the beach for a week. We stayed in this really big beach house right on the ocean. Every morning I would wake up and run outside to look at the waves
crashing on the shore. The ocean air smelled so salty and wonderful. I spent hours playing in the sand, building sandcastles and burying my little brother up to his neck! He wasn't too happy about that. Hee hee!
On the third day, we went deep sea fishing on a boat. I was really excited but also a little scared of getting seasick. Luckily, the ride was pretty smooth. We were out on the ocean for what felt like forever before we finally got a bite on the line. I pulled and pulled until I reeled in the biggest fish I've ever seen! The captain said it was a 25 pound amberjack. We threw it back but I got my picture taken with it first. What a prize catch!
The next couple days, we just relaxed on the beach. I loved jumping through the waves and body surfing. My arms got so tired from paddling but it was worth it. We had a bonfire one night and roasted s'mores. That was the best part! Well, besides finding all those awesome seashells. I collected bucketfuls of them to bring back home.
After our beach trip, we visited my aunt, uncle and cousins who live a few states away. It was so good to see them again! My cousins Nathan and Ella are a little older than me, so they're super cool in my eyes. Nathan taught me some new dance moves and Ella let me borrow her makeup kit to practice doing
makeovers. We all went mini golfing one afternoon which was really fun even though my score was terrible. Nathan beat everyone by a mile. He's the mini golf master!
One night, we had a sleepover in the backyard in a big tent. We told scary stories and made shadow puppets on the tent walls with a flashlight. I got a little freaked out when I heard some noises outside, but it was just a rabbit. Phew! The next morning, we had a huge pajama dance party in the living room. We jumped around and sang at the top of our lungs to all the latest pop songs. I don't know if the neighbors appreciated our concert very much, but we had a blast!
My cousins took me to this really cool trampoline park one day too. It was this huge warehouse with wall-to-wall trampolines everywhere. Even the walls were covered in trampoline material so you could literally bounce off them! We jumped into a pit filled with thousands of tiny foam cubes. Cannon-balling into that pit was my favorite. I've got to get a trampoline for my backyard now.
Well Jessica, I could go on and on about everything but I'm running out of paper. I'll have to tell you more when I see you next. I hope you had a fun summer too! School starts again in just a couple weeks. I'm sort of excited to see everyone and start
4th grade, but I'll really miss staying up late, sleeping in, and not having any homework. Oh well, at least we'll get to hang out at recess!
Write back soon! Your BFF, Emily

Hi friend! I'm writing to tell you all about my super fun vacation. We went to the beach and it was awesome!
First, we had to pack everything for the trip. Mom made me fold all my clothes neatly into the suitcase. She got mad when I just tried stuffing them in there! I also packed my beach toys - my bucket, shovel, and some cool molds

Dear Tommy,
Hey! It's me, your best buddy Jack. I'm writing to you from summer camp and boy do I have lots to tell you about! Camp is super fun but I really miss you and the rest of our friends back home.
The bus ride here took forever. I had to sit next to Stinky Steve who didn't shower for like a week before camp. Pretty gross! When we got to Camp Wildwood, the counselors were really nice though. They showed us to our cabins and I'm bunking with some cool guys - Eddie, Michael, and Justin. We all get along great so far.
The first couple days were basically just ice breakers and learning all the camp rules. They have a ton of rules here - no going into the woods alone, no pulling pranks after lights out, always wearing your life jacket when we're on the lake, an
