Comparison Of China’s And The Western Educational System

Since the most of the Nobel prizes this year are undoubtedly awarded to the westerners, it’s time for us to think it over, and the hottest topic maybe education, I’d like to make some comparison between China’s and the western educational system.

The Chinese family education is quite different from that of western countries. Firstly, parents in the west agree that their children are of individual independence since the day they were born, they are expected to have their own willingness and characteristics while most parents in China teach their children to be obedient and follow the suit of the elder.

Secondly, Western parents believe that the kids are able to examine and teach themselves, they ought to do things by their own, and they’d gain experience and happiness from it. They gain knowledge and learn skills through practice. But Chinese parents tend to prepare everything for their children, for the fear that the kids would suffer difficulties.

Thirdly, in western countries, family education aims at creation, parents produce an atmosphere of creativities, in which children learn to earn their own living. Most Chinese parents wish their have a bright future, and be excellent in some certain field. Study is the most common concern of Chinese parents, they care little about whether the children like what they are doing, which cause the children to rely much on their parents and are weak in dealing with social intercourse etc.

Not only are there some difference on the family education, but also in basic education. On one hand, Chinese school place extra emphasis on the depth of knowledge, students learn to pass the examination, and we believe that the students who gets the highest marks are the best students. Things are different in the west, the school focus more on train the personal abilities.

Students are encouraged to raise questions in class and exchange ideas with the teachers. On the other hand, China still uses the examination-oriented education system, but western countries all-around development education system.
