中国的建筑与中国的文明同样古老。所有的资料来源（文学、图象、实例）都证明，从史前时期直到当代，中国人一直采用着一种土生土长的构造体系，始终保持着这种构造的基本特征。在中国文化影响所及的广大地区里——从新疆到日本，从东北三省到中南半岛北部，都流行着这同一种构造体系。尽管中国曾不断地遭受外来的军事和文化侵犯，这种体系竟能在如此广袤的地域和长达四千余年的时间中常存不败，不易其基本特征，这一现象，只有中华文明的延续性可以与之相提并论。

Chinese Architecture

Chinese architecture shares an equally old history with Chinese civilization. According to the materials including literature, pictures, and cases, it can be proved that from the prehistoric times to the present age, Chinese have adopted an indigenous building system, whose essential features have been maintained. This building system has been extensively used in vast regions where Chinese culture makes a difference, such as the areas from Xinjiang to Japan, from Northeast China to Northern Indochina. Even though China once suffered military and cultural aggression, this system can amazingly remain prevalent and keep its basic features in such vast areas for over four thousand years. This phenomenon can be only compared with the continuity of Chinese civilization.
